Alto Saxophone by Lauren Peck
Korean Percussions by Kangsan Lee
Piano by Sohee Baek
The concept of this piece was to make listeners feel as if they’re watching a live gig in a
bar. As I’m not familiar with jazz or improvisation, I wanted to challenge myself by
composing music- somewhere between jazz and classical. For this reason, I chose
saxophone and Korean traditional percussions for this piece- both of which I’ve never
written for before. In particular, I deliberately didn’t write a percussion score before the
recording, so we could improvise based on the recorded piano and saxophone, using the
traditional Korean rhythmic patterns.
